JavaScript: From Past to Future - Embracing the Third Age
Florin Tomozei - Software Engineer @ Wolfpack Digital
Europa Room
8th November, 16:15-16:45
We embark on a journey through the past, exploring the origins of the JavaScript language, starting with its introduction in Netscape Navigator, its pivotal role in the rise of Web 2.0, and other significant milestones like AJAX, JQuery, and client-side frameworks. We arrive in the present, where we look at the current ecosystem and the omnipresence of the language in the web domain, with all its libraries and available frameworks. We will also discuss the challenges faced by developers today, such as the developer experience (DX).
In the second part, we look towards the future, specifically the third decade of the century, which also represents "The Third Age of JavaScript." We will explore the influence of AI and ML in the web ecosystem, the common direction of many frameworks to provide a better DX, and how we can accelerate development without sacrificing quality through serverless architectures, microservices, Progressive Web Apps (PWA), and automated testing methods. Towards the end, we will discuss the expansion of the language into various other domains, as well as the emergence of WebAssembly and its role in modern, browser-based applications.
