The Artificial Intelligence Powering Autonomous Driving
Alexandru Condurache - Senior Expert @ Bosch
Room 32
8th November, 17:15-17:45
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is the technology that currently enables significant advances what supporting humans in their daily activities is concerned, including driving. In this talk I will give an overview to how can we use AI to solve the task of Autonomous Driving in a manner that considers at the same time performance, efficiency, and safety. Considering AI an approach to building machines able to decide in an optimal manner, we will focus on modern algorithmic approaches that offer an AI-based solution for AD. We will discuss what decisions need to be made and what does optimality mean for each algorithmic building block of our solution, but also why and how can we integrate the blocks in a modular end2end algorithmic chain.

Alexandru Paul Condurache received the Dipl.-Ing. degree in electrical engineering and the Diploma of Advanced Studies in biomedical engineering from the ’Politehnica’ University of Bucharest, Romania in 2000. In 2007 he received the Dr.-Ing. degree and in 2014 the Habilitation degree in computer science from the University of Luebeck, Germany. He is now with Robert Bosch GmbH and a guest lecturer at the University of Lübeck. His current research interests are improved generalization with limited training effort, model capacity, and amount of data including also expressing and integrating prior knowledge and investigating the generalization envelope of decision algorithms with a focus on autonomous driving applications.
